The company secured the National Winner titles in "Chemicals and Advanced Materials" and "People's Choice" and earned the 2nd position in the grand prize for Cleantech Company of the Year. These accolades were revealed during the Cleantech Open Global Forum, often referred to as the "Academy Awards of Cleantech," which served as the grand finale of the Cleantech Open Accelerator and the conclusion of the 2013 Cleantech Open Global Ideas Competition. The prestigious grand prize was awarded to PowWow Energy, chosen from among the five National Category winners.

This year's Cleantech Open Accelerator began with more than 300 initial companies nationwide, competing across eight regions in a competition that commenced in April 2013. In October, 22 regional semi-finalists were chosen, including HJ3 Composite Technologies and Grannus, LLC from Tucson, AZ, who were celebrated in Silicon Valley at the annual Global Forum. Grannus won the Sustainability award in the Cleantech Rocky Mountain Regional Finals and was the second runner-up in the National Sustainability company competition. Grannus has developed a disruptive innovation in nitrogen fertilizer production, boasting a 30% production cost advantage, a 40% construction cost advantage, and a 3-fold sustainability advantage.
The Cleantech Open operates as the world's largest cleantech accelerator with a mission to identify, fund, and nurture entrepreneurs with innovative solutions to today's pressing energy, environmental, and economic challenges.
