HJ3 Receives PEMEX Approval

HJ3’s CarbonSeal™ Industrial Composite Systems Gain PEMEX Approval for Steel Pipe Repair and Strengthening

HJ3’s groundbreaking CarbonSeal™ Industrial Composite Systems have achieved qualification and endorsement from Mexico's renowned energy giant, PEMEX. This significant milestone now permits the use of HJ3's state-of-the-art carbon fiber solutions for the restoration and reinforcement of both low risk and high-risk corroded or damaged steel pipelines. This approval encompasses pipelines integrated into every facet of the oil and gas production process, including onshore, offshore, exploration, refining, transmission, and distribution pipelines.

"This is a momentous achievement for HJ3," says Jim Butler, President and Co-founder of HJ3. "Having successfully executed over 10,000 applications worldwide for civil and industrial steel and concrete infrastructure, this qualification opens up an array of opportunities within the Latin American petrochemical and gas sector. Our carbon fiber products, renowned for their exceptional per-ply strength, can significantly reduce costs for companies like PEMEX compared to alternative repair methods or complete replacements."

The rigorous qualification process, conducted by Instituto Mexicano Del Petroleo (IMP), included a battery of individual strength and durability assessments in compliance with ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1 APPENDIX III ISO/TS-24817 Standards for the Repair of Pressure Equipment and Piping. Notably, HJ3’s CarbonSeal™ system withstood a burst test, demonstrating its ability to endure internal pressures exceeding 5,000 psi when applied to defects, even in cases involving 80-90% steel wall loss.

HJ3 Composite Technologies has marked 2012 as a transformative year, commemorating a decade of innovation. The company was also honored with the Arizona Commerce Authority’s Arizona Innovation Challenge Grant for the second consecutive year, triumphing over 400 competing companies. Furthermore, HJ3 earned the prestigious title of "Technology Company of the Year" from the Minority and Small Business Alliance of Southern Arizona. With over 25 years of extensive large-scale testing and 20,000 hours of product durability assessments, HJ3 continues to provide unwavering support to esteemed Fortune 500 entities such as ExxonMobil, Shell Oil, British Petroleum, and now PEMEX, delivering materials with unparalleled per-ply strength, endorsed engineering, and on-site quality control.

Petróleos Mexicanos, more commonly known as PEMEX, stands as the largest company in Mexico and Latin America. It plays a pivotal role in Mexico's sustainable development as the foremost fiscal contributor. PEMEX is distinguished as one of the few global oil companies that orchestrates every facet of petroleum production, spanning from oil and gas exploration to refining and the subsequent transmission and distribution of refined products.
